What is acupuncture?Acupuncture is system of healing based on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) principles which is known to have been in development for thousands of years. It involves inserting thin, sterile needles into the skin and soft tissue to stimulate the body's natural healing abilities. There are specific points on the body where the needles may be placed, each point having its own unique therapeutic effect on the body. Acupuncture has been commonly used throughout the world to treat various health conditions, now, as more scientific research is published, acupuncture is becoming more widely accepted in the UK.

How many sessions will I need? The amount of treatments can vary from patient to patient depending on the condition(s) being treated. if you're coming for fertility acupuncture I need to work with your cycles so will usually need a minimum of 3 cycles to balance out hormones and make a difference. Our goal is always to give patients the best results in as few sessions as possible but as many as necessary for a long term solution. Acupuncture results are cumulative meaning each session builds on the last. As an example if a doctor gives you a course of medication you wouldn't take 1 pill and expect to be cured straight away, acupuncture is no different, it takes a course of treatment especially if the condition treated has been present for years it isnt going to be cured in 1 treatment.

How often do I need to attend? The ideal frequency is weekly but I know this isnt always possible. As we are trying to work with your hormones and cycle the minimum is fortightly to see a change, any less than this isn't recommended.
-
What should I wear? It's best to wear comfortable clothing to your appointment, clothing which is able to be pulled up to the knee easily is ideal.
